Life

Life

Life is unpredictable.
One day you’re twelve, and you live and play, worrying only about your hair or your new shoes. Then a boy brings a bomb to school, threatens to pull the safety pin. Suddenly you’re living in an empty school, sleeping on UN mats, but you still go out and play, while a sniper sits atop of a hill weaving your destiny.

And you survive.
One day your new country explodes, two-thousand people die, and you are to blame for being you, just like you were to blame when that sniper looked at you through his lens and when that boy thought he could teach you a lesson, for being you.

Life is unpredictable.
And one day there is another kid, in love with life and music, maybe a boy or a girl. His or her body sways to the rhythm of happiness and elation and then it's over. The life ends.

Life is unpredictable for no reason. The universe is chaos after all.

Life is unpredictable because we are wolves to each other.

But I survived. And millions of others will survive. Grief will remain a gift for many because we cannot stop the pain from propagating. We remember. And even though life is unpredictable, we owe it to those who are grieving and to those who float among the stars now, to make this life full of sweet hope.

For Paris, for Istanbul, for Yemen, for Sarajevo, for Iraq, for Mexico-City, for Houston, for Las Vegas.
